Hi guys kloe here
As I mentioned in my three favourite pieces of artwork that my art work along with the other ladies in the beginners group and the returners would be shown in the exhibition held at the end of the course which was about three weeks ago now, here’s what pieces I exhibited and my reasons behind them I hope you enjoy this blog …
Let’s go back to the exhibition shall we ...
Week 1-3 Drawing
As I mention in my favourite art work blog this piece was stressful but in the end after all the stress and tears and the feelings it wasn’t good I thought it turned out pretty good. I like that with all the other horses submitted that they are all different in their own ways, my horse second (Mariah’s is under mine the other light horse) from the top is a fairly light horse the reason being that I’m not very good at shady and I liked after doing a little bit of shading the look it gave but all in all it looks like a horse right …
Week 4-5 Pastels
These weeks were so fun yet I feel like in these weeks I learnt a lot that I would have never thought before. One of my favourite things about pastels is the colours are so bold and bright and say like with the pear as I was drawing it from still life the colours were a little different, when I applied the pastels some of the colours I used were so much brighter from the pear’s light colours and I loved that and with pastels you can be almost dramatic with the colours. I love how tom my cat looked once he was finished and the temporary frame really brought him out of the page, its best to say that I was pleased with my pastel work.
Week 6-8 Watercolour
This is one of the things I was most looking to learning in the course and boy it didn’t disappoint I love how watercolour can give a picture a really dreamy and effortless effect and that’s why I choose to show my as I call it adult owl. I’m am super proud of this owl and really love how it turned out. I decided not to show my misty mountain because I didn’t love certain bits about the picture but with that said it was a great first piece to try with watercolour and I will definitely try and recreate it again. My twin sister Mariah decided to shows her misty mountain and it looks amazing.
Week 9-12 Acrylic
Well I thought there was a lot to learn about watercolour but acrylic has so many different techniques and styles in which you can paint for example with a palette knife for my starfish which I only used a palette knife which we did in one of the acrylic weeks and as hard at first getting used to the palette knife but I definitely agree that the more I used the palette knife it got easy. I knew I had to choose my starfish for the exhibition is because of the different technique and how the texture felt and more importantly I loved how different it was and I would have never have thought of this technique. When we were told to do an abstract piece I wasn’t really sure where to start it was hard after having things to draw from it was weird as we were told to be free as such but I loved experimenting with the abstract and for this piece I would have never thought of using a toothbrush yes you heard me right toothbrush , that’s why I had to pick this piece not only did I love it but I loved the crazy technique that I used and I love it.
Week 13 Finishing off
This week we were told to bring in any pieces that we wanted to finish off and I decided to finish off my foliage picture I didn’t manage to get it all done but the next week whilst I was in Portugal finished it and I was happy with how it did turned out, it was one of those things that the more I paint foliage etc. the more it will look better as I always say practice makes perfect and I couldn’t agree more.
Week 14 Mounting
This week we mounted our pieces ready for the exhibition and let me tell you a temporary mount which we were shown by our amazing teachers was complicated I’d say for a first time mounter like myself there was a lot to learn and if I’m honest I could have done with another set of hands too, but I’m really pleased at how the piece of artwork looked with frames its true what they say the frame really brought it to life .
I hope you guys have enjoyed my much promised exhibition post and I hope you enjoyed my blabbing about my art work….
Until next time happy reading
